As you come to the end of your Village Project experience this semester reflect on what it has meant to you and share your top 10 takeaways from this opportunity?
- I’ve learned how to better take care of a bigger group of kids.
- I’ve learned that with elementary students rewards allow them to listen better or more.
- Champs(a review of the expectations) is also very essential for elementary students.
- I’ve learned to have peripheral vision all around the classroom in order to keep an eye on all misbehaviors.
- I’ve learned to be more confident in my decision-making skills.
- I’ve learned to choose battles with the kids, most of the time as long as they are quiet and not in any danger, I allow them to continue with that activity. This is to prevent more power struggles than necessary.
- I’ve learned to be more patient with the kids because they each learn at different paces.
- I’ve learned to plan the lessons/clubs in advance as to understand the concepts I’ll be teaching the students
- I’ve learned how to put my Spanish skills to use with a couple kids. By communicating with them in their language, I was able to make a connection with them.
- I’ve learned how to use positive reinforcement with the kids to help them know that they should be doing a different action that’s more safe or to follow the rules.
Your license area goes all the way down to 4th grade. If you were to work with 4th/5th/6th graders, what would you teach them about computers? How would you engage them? Would you have them take a computer apart and explain the parts? Do you think this would “hook” kids in?
Peace,
